Henry

Austin EMS

Henry was born in Nicaragua and raised in northern California. He began his career in public service with a season of wild land firefighting in the Mendocino National Forest. After that season, Henry put himself through both Paramedic School and Fire Academy all while volunteering with the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team. His first job after the completion of his degrees was as an EMT/Firefighter at a large steel mill. In 2008 he moved to Austin, Texas to work for ATCEMS and in 2014 Henry joined their Special Operations Rescue Team. This specialized team assists with normal emergency calls as well as high and low angle, swift and flood water, confined space, cave, and hazmat rescues. In addition to his regular work duties, Henry is a part of the Formula One Race Track Medical Team and also helps with public education in the Infant and Child Safety Program. When he is not serving the residents of Austin, he likes to spend time with his wife and watch his daughter play volleyball. He also likes to take advantage of the local music scene in Austin and tries to attend as many shows as he can. You can often find him running, swimming, biking, or working in the community garden near his station in downtown Austin. Despite the late nights, unplanned fasting, and busy shifts, he is still grateful to have a career that focuses on helping others in his community in their times of need.
