On Christmas Eve 2019, Kevin Bacon, 25, was murdered by Mark Latunski, a 50-year-old man he met on Grindr. Latunski, with a history of severe mental illness, castrated Bacon and ate some of his remains.

The Baton Rouge serial killer murdered eight women in Louisiana between 1994 and 2004, around the same time serial killer Derrick Todd Lee was also active in the area.
